Title: Sukitte Ii na yo aka Say "I Love You" Genre: Romance, Drama Original Manga: Kanae Hazuki Director: Takuya Satou Studio: ZEXCS Format: 2 OVAs Dates: 6 October 2012 – 30 December 2012 Mei Tachibana is a shy and quiet girl who's neither friendly nor appealing to the boys. One day, she accidentally injures Yamato Kurosawa, the most popular boy in school. For some reason, Yamato became interested in being friends with her. Later on, they ended up being more than friends. |
Tae-chan convinced me to watch this series so she can have someone to complain about it with. Yes, Tachibana was annoying but maybe I was expecting her to be much more irritating than I thought she would be. I think that's how I managed to finish the show. I expected it to suck so much that I wasn't surprised with how the story went. In the end, I felt like it wasn't so bad.
The series is a typical romance-comedy with all the elements one would imagine. It's frustrating how they make characters like Tachibana who doesn't seem to react to anything even if she already feels so terrible. It's like I'm watching a live-action drama instead of a supposedly light romantic anime. Well, maybe that's intentional but it just feels weird to waste such nice art to an overemotional soap. Surprisingly though, this is what makes Tachibana's character close to reality. People love drama so much that they get pointers in life from fictional characters.
Interestingly, I made it through 13 episodes and I wasn't so upset after the last. For that, I give it a 6/10. I've seen worse shows than this so it deserves a big OK!
