Denpa Teki na Kanojo is one of those anime titles I watched just because I found it under the horror category. I know absolutely nothing about this series before I watched it so I had no idea what to expect.
Juuzawa Juu is a delinquent high school student who lives and prefers to be alone. At school, he meets Ochibana Ame, a weird girl who claims that they are connected by the bonds of their past lives as king and servant. Juu ignores her but eventually takes interest as they team up in investigating a series of murders that happen in the neighborhood.

I absolutely adore Denpa’s art. It’s just so vivid and detailed that it almost resembles Byousoku 5 Centimeters’ drawing. Each scene is presented in a nice field of angle that gives it more realistic depth and is just totally wonderful to watch. On the other hand, the characters aren’t that well-drawn which is a bit disappointing.
It makes me think that they didn’t have a sufficient budget to make enough episodes to tell a better story. It looks like the content was sacrificed for good visuals. Everything felt rushed and compressed into a couple of hours of what could have been a better show.

Honestly, I didn’t get much sense out of the story. They’re just an insane bunch hurting other people to get revenge for what had been done to them. Juu and Ochibana were just witnesses to these crazy series of events.
I’m obviously basing all my comments about the story on the OVA since I haven’t read the novel. I’m assuming (and hoping) that Ochibana is much more of a character than how they made her in the show.
I can only give this series a 6/10. Even though it satisfied my taste for blood and violence, it fell short of a potentially great story.
